New Chapter for the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg
In 2026, AnatoliaDev is making a concerted effort to highlight the people, places, and stories that make Sacramento and the surrounding communities so unique. From historic landmarks to local businesses and community initiatives, we aim to shine a spotlight on what makes our region thrive. By sharing these stories, we hope to foster stronger connections, support local growth, and inspire others to celebrate and engage with the vibrant culture, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit that surrounds us every day.
The iconic Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, a beloved wine destination just a short drive from Sacramento, is beginning a fresh chapter after a period of uncertainty. After facing foreclosure following the unexpected passing of the previous owner in 2025, the historic complex has been purchased by a local investment group, Highland Pacific Capital, LLC.
Originally built in 1934 as a sugar beet refinery, the Old Sugar Mill lies in the heart of the Clarksburg AVA (American Viticulture Area) and has become a cornerstone of regional agritourism. Once a bustling industrial site, it was thoughtfully transformed in the early 2000s into a destination for wine lovers, hosting 14 unique wineries, tasting rooms, weddings, and special events that showcase the best of Northern California wines.
From Historic Landmark to Wine Destination
For decades, visitors have enjoyed wine tasting, events, live music, and community gatherings inside the mill’s beautiful brick walls. Its proximity to Sacramento makes it a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike a place where good wine and good company come together.
When the mill faced foreclosure in the summer of 2025, many feared the worst. But the passionate group of tenant wineries banded together to keep doors open and preserve the vibrancy of this historic venue while a sale was arranged. Their dedication ensured that tastings, daily operations, and community events could continue even through uncertainty.
A New Vision for the Future
Under new ownership, the focus now is on revitalizing the property, re-engaging tenants, and bringing back weddings and larger events that had slowed down in recent months. Jobin Randhawa, the new property manager, has emphasized the importance of restoring foot traffic and enhancing the overall experience for both visitors and the community.
Plans include:
- Re-establishing popular events and gatherings that once drew crowds from across the region.
- Exploring food and entertainment offerings on site to make the Mill a true destination spot.
- Supporting local winemakers by bringing back on-site grape crushing and production services.
Cheers to New Beginnings
We’re thrilled to see the Old Sugar Mill transition into capable and passionate hands. This treasured place has deep roots in our region’s agricultural heritage and continues to be a gathering place for friends, families, and wine lovers alike.
To the new owners and operators congratulations on this meaningful investment in Clarksburg, Yolo County, and Northern California’s wine community. Here’s to good wine, great memories, and a bright future ahead at the Old Sugar Mill!
